It's hard to say when I first used Python. I was writing the most Python while helping the iPodder team by late 2004. That gave a front row seat for getting hit by the Apple steamroller in 2005. To nut out the history before that, I had to dig.
Earlier, I'd worked on PyDS with Georg Bauer in 2003. David Goodger was kind enough to acknowledge some of my help (hope hope) with the Python docstring processing system in its final release in 2002. Linux Weekly News reckoned I published an article on extending Zope in 1999. All up, I reckon I started in late 1.4 or early 1.5.
